MOTIF

Immersive Performance | Edible Installation
Multi-medium, edible piece designed to launch Italian Studio Masson's new showroom and couture tile and stone collection.

Two installations that were served as dessert to end of the evening launch.
I created marbled tiles of the ancient 'cube design, made out of fondant sugar.
The plinth in front of the tiled wall was patterned in the 'hexagonal cube' design
using all natural fruit-infused sugars, integrated with tiny sweet treats - truffles, fudge, honeycomb and fynbos flavoured meringues.

Performance - 'Roasted Marshmallow'.
The lights dimmed and a 10 minute dramatic sequence of kaleidoscopic patterns, colours and optical illusions was projected onto the wall whilst a deep-base soundtrack played.
I moved to the beat whilst 'plastering' it with whipped Italian meringue with a plasterers tool.
I then fired the meringue with a large blowtorch to end the performance.
I then handed out delicious 'roasted marshmallow' on spoons to the audience.

Narrative:
"On a recent trip to italy, I became captivated by the sacred mosaic patterns that I saw on the floors and walls of historical buildings, spanning many artistic periods.
I saw repetition in them, a use of the same shapes and configurations.
My enjoyment of patterns in nature, and my visual observation of these same patterns in chemical, biological compounds and mathematics, leads me to an understanding that our world is made up of patterns that repeat themselves, in different scales, in everything."
